Tell us a little about who you are and what you do...

Hi, I'm Laura Jane Forbes, Corporate Fundraiser at Grace House.  Grace House is a children’s charity that offers short breaks and respite care to children living with complex disabilities across the North East. We provide a fun, safe, exciting environment where children can come and live life to the full. We also offer support to parents and carers in the form of counselling, support groups and holistic treatments.

What does success mean to you, right now?

I've not been at Grace House for long and so success to me means building relationships which will become long lasting and meaningful for both parties. It’s all about establishing myself in this role and raising awareness for Grace House to people who might not have heard about us before, as well as raising the funds required to continue to provide these amazing services.

What do you love about what you do?

I love going out and meeting business people from all walks of life, from large companies and small businesses too, and finding out what makes them tick! And then the best part is raising money for a fantastic charity which makes a huge difference not only to the children we support but also their family as well. It is so incredibly humbling and rewarding.

What do you find most challenging?

To be honest the thing I find most challenging is managing my work/life balance! I am so passionate about what I do it tends to take over my whole life and then I don’t switch off or take any time for myself. Also a lot of what I do doesn’t feel like “work” so it is really easy for me to justify doing that in the evenings or at weekends!  I am getting slightly better at this but I’m not quite there yet!

What's your biggest achievement(s) to date?

I was made redundant from my previous job and I think it was a huge personal achievement to bounce back and get a new job within 2 weeks of this.

In terms of my career at Grace House one of my biggest achievements to date has been selling a sponsorship package for our next Golf Day at Slaley Hall…I set a goal to sell it before Christmas but I sold it on Friday, meaning I can launch the event earlier than planned! I did a wee happy dance in the office to celebrate!

What are your hopes and dreams for future success and happiness?

To help people understand what we do at Grace House and also to see the many ways that they can get involved and make a difference themselves.

What's your best piece of advice for others wanting to feel more successful?

I think the best advice I can give (which I have been given many times and I am only starting to believe it now!) is to believe in yourself. If you believe in yourself you can do anything you put your mind to. Also I swear by vision boards and writing down your goals so you can easily track them A goal without a plan is just a dream!

Anything else you’d like to add?

If anyone would like to know more about Grace House and how your business can get involved, please do get in touch and we can have a coffee and a chat (and cake!) and see if there is any way we can work together.
